Demi Compost Champions

What does it mean to be a Demi compost champion?

As Demi continues to build and source its pipeline for potential building partnerships and transform urban composting from a myth to an everyday reality, the pivotal role of our compost champions is undeniable.

Our compost champions are not limited to our early adopters and green warriors but have included loyal investors, enthusiastic property managers, and curious customers. Over the past several months, we’ve identified the following to be key beliefs and hallmarks of our Demi compost champions.

  1. Climate change is real and something we need to tackle today to protect our tomorrow.

This unfortunate and harsh reality is the reason for Demi’s existence and the urgency in Demi’s mission to reduce greenhouse gas emissions that have been driving up the planet’s temperatures in the last few decades.

The top 4 greenhouse gases are carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, methane, and ozone. These greenhouse gases occur naturally and are a part of Earth’s atmosphere, allowing for the right temperature conditions for life to flourish and evolve. But in the last century, accelerated industrialization and human activity through consumption and burning of fossil fuels has caused the levels of carbon dioxide to rise. As carbon dioxide levels rise in our atmosphere, extra heat is captured and stored near the Earth’s surface and is directly responsible for the continuous temperature changes we’ve been observing.

The melting of our polar ice caps, increased frequency of tropical storms, natural disasters like tsunamis and drought, deadly wildfires, and other weather-related phenomenon are a result of the climate changes Earth is experiencing.

Being active and engaged in this campaign to do better today is something Demi compost champions understand at their very core.

  2. Belief in the power of the individual and the ownership of self.

It can feel disheartening and frustrating to be a mere individual in the fight against climate change. Although there’s a lot outside of our control, individual contributions and small changes can have a big impact. Demi compost champions are very in tune with the idea that they can consciously make decisions and play an active role in their lives.

Although composting is made significantly easier for urban dwellers with Demi, it certainly requires some amount of effort for someone who has never composted before. Yet this incremental amount of effort to opt in and take accountability is what makes our Demi compost champions so special. Composting lowers greenhouse gases through improved carbon sequestration in the soil and prevents methane emissions through aerobic decomposition. Anyone who composts is directly responsible for meaningful, positive impacts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions no matter how small they seem!

  3. Giving back builds better communities.

When people work collectively towards a higher purpose, there is an innate sense of community and buy-in that feels good. It feels good, fun, engaging, and inspiring, but also authentic and natural. Having a sense of purpose and meaning in our lives strikes a chord with many, especially when we’re inundated with constant news of natural disasters, political strife and unrest, mass destruction and devastation, and the unsettling state of things globally. Demi compost champions give back because they want to build better and be better.

Though Demi compost champions know they can only control their own actions and selves, they are often actively engaged in their communities and true change makers. They understand their communities extremely well and source their buy-in to make sure Demi and other green efforts succeed. They work in tandem with the Demi team to make sure the barriers to composting are removed and the hesitations are overcome!

Demi is actively seeking compost champions to help us build out the compost pipeline in Chicago buildings, and we would love to get introductions and customer feedback.
